2025/04/20 Interaction with students from the University of Birmingham

MSBメンバーのヒナです。この春はイギリスのバーミンガム大学から医学生が二名、京都大学に留学に来てくれました。

京都の伝統的な体験と学校探索をしたいということだったので、まずは無鄰菴という京都の伝統的なお庭に訪ねました。天気もよく、景色を見た後、抹茶と和菓子をいただきました。抹茶の味はイギリスのものとはかなり違ったみたいでしたが、日本の少し苦みのある抹茶をとても気に入ってくれました。

その後は、京都大学に戻り、時計台からぐるっと吉田キャンパスを案内しました。バーミンガム大学と似ているところがあるようで、まるで自分の母校にいるみたいと驚いていました。私も吉田キャンパスを訪ねるのは久しぶりだったため、学校案内をすることができてよかったです。

Hi! I’m Hina from MSB. This spring, we had two medical students from the University of Birmingham come to Kyoto University.

They wanted to experience traditional Kyoto and explore the campus, so we first visited Murinan, a beautiful traditional Japanese garden. The weather was perfect, and after enjoying the scenery, we had some matcha and wagashi. The matcha tasted quite different from what they’re used to in the UK, but they really liked the slightly bitter flavor of the Japanese style.

After that, we headed back to Kyoto University and I gave them a little tour around the Yoshida campus, starting from the clock tower. They said some parts of the campus reminded them of Birmingham, and it almost felt like being back at their home university—which was a fun surprise for them. It had been a while since I visited the Yoshida campus myself, so I was really glad I got the chance to show them around.
